Windows Deployment Services (WDS) enables installing operating systems from your local network. WDS requires you to have Active Directory Domain Service, DHCP Server and DNS Server. The BIOS of the client machine the operating system is going to be installed on must support and have enabled network (PxE) booting.

Installation

Install the WDS role from Server Manager.

  1. Begin installation Manage -> Add Roles and Features
  2. Read Before you begin and select NEXT
  3. We select Role-based or Feature-based installation and install the WDS role on one server.
  4. We select the server the role is to be installed on.
  5. We select the WDS role.
  6. Select Add Feature, the role's control panel is now enabled.
  7. We skip the Feature tab, NEXT
  8. Read the description of the WDS role.
  9. We select all the features of the WDS role.
  10. Confirm installation INSTALL
  11. The role is now installed.

Configuration

  1. Open Windows Deployment Services from the Server Manager. Using the right mouse button, select Configure Server from the list.
  2. Read before continuing.
  3. Select how to install WDS: * Integrated in Active Directory Domain Service * Standalone Server
  4. Select where the WDS server is to be installed. It must be an NTFS partition and can not be a system partition.
  5. For instance on the root of the R drive.
  6. Define Proxy DHCP server
  7. Define who is allowed to use the WDS service
  8. Installing service
  9. If you encountered an error, start the service manually.

Lisää käynnistys image

  1. Valitse Boot Image kohdasta hiiren kaksoispainikkeella Add Boot Image
  2. Valitse imagen sijainti. Pura tätät varten Windowssin ISO tiedosto ja hae boot.win tiedosto.
  3. Määritä Imagelle nimi.
  4. Varmista ennen jatkamista että olet määrittänyt oikein
  5. Boot Imagen luonti onnistui

Lisää asennus image

  1. Valitse hiiren kaksoispainikkeella Add Install Image
  2. Valitse imagen sijainti. Tämä on puretusta Windows iso tiedostossa install.wim niminen tiedosto.
  3. Valitse imaget jotka lisätään WDS palvelimeen
  4. Vahvista muutokset

Muokkaa WDS:n käynnistysvalikkoa

Vaihdetaan WDS:n käynnistysvalikko kolmannenosapuolen käynnistysvalikkoon. Käytämme Syslinuxia.

WDS palvelu on asennettu D:\RemoteInstall hakemiston alle.

1. Lataa ja pura syslinux asennustiedosto.

2. Kopioi com\vesamenu32.c32 ja com32\modules\chain.c32 tiedostot D:\RemoteInstall\Boot\x64 ja D:\RemoteInstall\Boot\x86 hakemistojen alle.

3. Kopioi core\pxelinux.0 tiedosto WDS palvelimen, D:\RemoteInstall\Boot\x64 ja D:\RemoteInstall\Boot\x64 hakemistojeen ja muuta molemmissa hakemistoissa pxelinux0 nimeksi pxelinux.com. Kannattaa varmuuskopioida vanha tiedosto.

4. D:\RemoteInstall\Boot\x64 ja D:\RemoteInstall\Boot\x86 hakemistossa kopioi pxeboot.n12 ja uudelleennimeä se pxeboot.0:ksi.

5. D:\RemoteInstall\Boot\x64 ja D:\RemoteInstall\Boot\x86 hakemistossa kopioi abortpxe.com ja uudelleennimeä se abortpxe.0:ksi.

6. Konfiguroi WDS:n käyttämään pxelinux.com bootti tiedostoa, tämä tehdään komentorivillä: 

WDSUTIL /Set-Server /BootProgram:boot\x86\pxelinux.com /Architecture:x86
 
WDSUTIL /Set-Server /N12BootProgram:boot\x86\pxelinux.com /Architecture:x86
 
WDSUTIL /Set-Server /BootProgram:boot\x64\pxelinux.com /Architecture:x64
 
WDSUTIL /Set-Server /N12BootProgram:boot\x64\pxelinux.com /Architecture:x64

7. Luo D:\RemoteInstall\Boot\x64 ja D:\RemoteInstall\Boot\x86 hakemistoihin kansio nimeltään pxelinux.cfg.

8. Luo pxelinux.cfg kansion alle tiedosto nimetään default (ei tiedostopäätettä).

9. Avaa tiedosto default ja kirjoita tiedostoon:
